GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is the local time on the meridian of Greenwich in England, used as an international basis of time-reckoning. It is also known as UT (Universal Time). It is only equivalent to British time when Britain is not observing Daylight Saving Time, which it does from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, when clocks are set an hour ahead of GMT (displaying 10.00 when the time is 9.00 GMT, for example).
